Its always crowded with thirsty people. Usually you can find someone looking for company, waiting for a story, or waiting for someone to listen to their story. Its probably the quickest way to get drinks, but you'll probably bump into someone and get caught up in a conversation.

"So what will it be deary?"
Cho smiled at the landlady of the Three Broomsticks. She really liked how Madam Rosemerta ran the establishment. The students could hang around drinking their non-alcoholic beverages and still manage to feel pretty sauve. Of course, at the heart of the matter, Cho really loved the Three Broomsticks for its butterbeer. Even once she was old enough to drink legally, she'd still love a good warm butterbeer. Plus her father had started letting her drink champange on New Years when she was thirteen. Nasty stuff. "A Butterbeer, please, Madam Rosemerta." "Coming right up deary." A few seconds later, Cho had a Butterbeer clasped in her slender hands. She ran her finger around the rim of the mug for a second, as she suddenly realized this was her last year at Hogwarts. After this year there wouldn't be any more Hogsmeade Weekends. She'd be either training as an auror, or working if her application was rejected. If she was working she could always apperate to the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer. But she wasn't going to be rejected. She'd be an auror someday, even if it killed her. Well, ok, maybe not that extreme. Letting go of the breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, Cho raised the tankard of butterbeer to her lips and took a sip. Yes, it was just like she remembered. Sure, she'd had butterbeer over the summer, but there was just something about sitting in the Three Broomsticks that made this butterbeer all the more better. Setting the mug back down on the smooth top of the bar, Cho wondered what her parents had drunk in their school days in China. She had the vague notion that butterbeer was a primarily Bristish drink. She was so caught up in her musing that she didn't notice when someone sat down next to her. "I always wanted to be somebody. Seamus was dancing and having a great time, despite his lack of rhythm. He smiled at the girls from his house that surrounded him and hardly noticed when Lynn disappeared with a Slytherin boy. He was too wrapped up in the other girls. Grinning at the closest one, Aja at the moment, he executed a spin on one foot and managed not to fall.
But his smile quickly vanished. He felt his face flush and he felt light headed. Stumbling a bit, not enough for anyone to think it wasnt part of his dance, he held up one hand to let the girls know hed be right back. Trying to walk upright, the room spun slightly with each step. He clutched his stomach and groaned, pushing dancers out of his way as he made it back to the bar. Slumping into the only vacant stool, his forehead slammed into his arms, wrapped on the bar. He didnt think he was going to be sick but he knew he couldnt stand up again in the near future. He drank those mugs way too fast and it was all catching up with him in this instant. With another small groan, he shifted in his seat, bumping into both people on either side of him, but not noticing himself. "It's funny when friends get hurt." ~ Kelso |

Cho was about to take another sip from her butterbeer when she heard a soft groan from the person next to her. A groan very similar to ones she'd heard when one of her second cousins twice removed (or something like that) got involved in a game of Jiuling with of of her great uncles. Not smart. Especially since they were using Maotai. Circe, her cousin had dropped like a rock after tossing back only five shots.
A second after the groan, Cho felt someone else's hips hit hers. Having not expected the sudden contract, Cho almost spilled her butterbeer down the front of her sweater. A quick tilt of her wrist kept that from happening. Thank goodness for split second reaction. Glancing over at the person next to her, Cho noticed that he had his head down on his arms. She couldn't for the life of her recall who it was. Realizing the guy must not be feeling well, she grew a bit concerned and reached out to touch him lightly on the shoulder. Hey, are you alright?
Seamus heard the words as if they were far away. Reaching for them mentally, his only hold on reality for the moment, he dared to lift his head. The room wasnt spinning quite so much now and his eyes could almost focus. Of course, he couldnt tell, but his hair was in his face and he looked ready to keel over at any moment. Struggling to smile at the girl next to him, he shook his head in the affirmative but that hurt too much so he stopped with a small moan. Yea, too many butterbeers in too short a time, me thinks. He told her, grimacing. He could see dark hair but thats about the extent of what he could focus on. Then the dancing. That was a bad idea. He added, not pleased at his remembrance of the little jig he just performed. Looking over at the girl again, he frowned, trying to focus more on her face. She seemed pretty, though in a blurry sort of way. Do I know ye? He asked suddenly, trying very hard to place her. He didnt want to be caught talking conversationally with any Slytherins after all. Hmm... an Irish accent, Cho though. Of course he could just be drunk enough for a French accent to turn into an Irish one. He sounded Irish enough though. That still didn't really help her in identifying him. And after flopping his head down on his arms, it was quite difficult to see his face through the mop of hair that had fallen in his eyes. That, and Cho doubted she recongnize one of her friends if he or she looked as ready to keel over as this guy did. Do I know ye? Well, either he was too pissed to be able to see her clearly or he wasn't a Ravenclaw. Probably both, as pretty much everyone at least knew her from quidditch. How many butterbeers had the poor lad had? Frankly, she didn't want to have to out right say, 'Nope, have no clue who you are.' Maybe a few well planned out statements would help him come to a conclusion. Unless he was a transfer student. But no, who would transfer to Hogwarts when so many transfered away? Hermione had taken her seat, and stared at the door with her book opened. She looked in the other direction, and noticed she was two seats away from Seamus Finnigan, and Cho Chang. She didn't want to disturb their conversation. So she went back reading until she heard,
"Will there be anything for the little bookworm?" the waitress said in the most pleasant sounding voice. It seemed to have startled Hermione. "What!" she exclaimed. "Oh, just a nice warm butterbeer I guess." Hermione knew the woman wasn't insulting her, just was probably shocked to see a student who studied durning festivities. She took a sip of the butterbeer, and tried to read. She couldn't concentrate. There was a party, and no Ron. This had to be a first. But she waited and hoped they soon show up. |

Seamus squeezed his eyes shut as tight as possible. Please make the spinning go away, he thought, he prayed, wanting very much to feel normal at that moment. Somehow he was answered, the room seemed to slow down and come to a stop. His eyes could focus a little better than they could a moment ago. Blinking a few times, he finally grinned, thinking himself cured.
Turning to the girl talking to him, his grin disappeared quickly. Whoa, no moving the head. Keep the noggin steady. he told himself mentally as he almost fell off the stool. But after the momentary owieness, he looked at Cho. And recognized her. Oh yea! Quidditch! He agreed, smiling again. Leaning his head on his fist, his elbow on the bar, he chuckled. Youre on the Ravenclaw team, I believe. He began to nod, realized that was moving his head, and abruptly stopped. Ive seen you fly. Youre excellent. He complimented, his words genuine. Too bad theres no Quidditch this year. Youd think Lucius would do all he could to fix the pitch since his son is such an excellent seeker. Seamus spoke the last part with dripping sarcasm, lifting his head off of his hands so he could wave them in mockery. He didnt seem to realize this was too much movement for him at the moment and he leaned sideways, almost off the stool. Catching himself at the last second, he sat upright, smiling at Cho. Im alright. Really. He assured her, signaling for the bartender to come their way. |

Oh yea! Quidditch!
OK, he got it. Cho relaxed a little as she concluded that she wouldn't have to spoon feed him her identity. Now the only issue left was to figure out who he was. She'd already ruled out the possibility of him being a Ravenclaw. And frankly he just didn't seem like a Slytherin, though it was sometimes hard to tell with that house. So that left Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Youre on the Ravenclaw team, I believe. Ive seen you fly. Youre excellent." Cho blushed slightly at the compliment to her flying. She'd never been able to take praise with a straight face and her pale skin made it all the more easier to see that. At least that was the only time it was easy to read her. "Why, thank you." "Too bad theres no Quidditch this year. Youd think Lucius would do all he could to fix the pitch since his son is such an excellent seeker. Cho nodded. Merlin, she was still a little ticked off about that. It was so unfair. No quidditch. She'd even been considering upgrading her broom this summer, but once she'd heard there wouldn't be any quidditch since the pitch still wasn't healed she'd decided against it. But maybe it was a good thing. The memories of the Heiress's attack were still somewhat fresh in everyone's minds. Playing on the pitch might have been difficult for some. "I was so disappointed when I heard that. This was going to be my last chance to win the Cup. Looks like I'll have more time to study for my NEWTs instead." OK, one more piece of the puzzle. He was obviously in Gryffindor. Only a Gryffindor would be able to rant about the new headmaster and his son with such vehemence. As he wobbled on his stool, Cho gasped and was about to reach out and stead him when he righted himself. Im alright. Really. "I should hope so. The floor's not as friendly as I am." Hermione finishing up her butterbeer, got fed up waiting for the two. She quickly put her book back in her pocket, and paid the tab. She hoped off the stool and turned one last time to make sure she had everything, then walked towards the door.
She was now in a bit of a sour mood since they hadn't shown up. It was a nice change of pace to have the welcoming festivities in The Three Broomsticks, but it rather dull. Hermione knew her time would have better been spent studying for potions, transfigurations, DADA, or charms. After all, she still wanted to be the best at everything, even though it meant beating out Draco Malfoy. She finally opened the door and walked out in disgust. |
